2003 folk hall installation photographs |
statement:
These letters are a multi purpose project. First, they are a daily record of my thoughts. I write about eleven hundred words per envelope. Second, it is a stamp collection. Thus far over three hundred different stamps, from three countries have been used. Third, the postmarks make each letter a legal document, and are a record of where I have been. Lastly, I just love to get mail. I love to open that box and find something other than a bill.
In my opinion, my art has some of its
purest moments while the letters are being written. Instances
when the ego can be set aside for just long enough that my true
feelings and emotions can be expressed. These letters are a by-product
of that creative energy. This installation is a visual presentation
of the by-product.
With both the linear design and the consecutive order of the envelopes,
I am presenting a detailed document of my perception, of my experience,
of my journey through time. That was a mouthful. The contents
of some of these letters are available online at http://www.dustingrella.com/blog
Much thanks to everyone who helped to make the show what it was.
